Not to go all Sheldon Cooper or anything (watch The Big Bang Theory if you don't get the reference) but we got a new flag at the Schoolhouse yesterday, and it got me thinking. Being a Girl Guide and all I probably know a bit more about the Canadian flag than the average Canadian, and I started wondering how much also applied to the Chinese flag. A couple of staff members unfolded it and did the unthinkable back home -- drooped it all over the floor. They, fairly obviously, did not proceed to burn it (as would technically have had to be the case in Canada), but folded it back up in no obvious pattern. The intrigue continued ...
As they brought the old one down, I thought to myself: "for once, I can actually be useful! I know the flag knots!" Yes, I am a geek and no, they don't use the same ones in China -- or at least not at the Brickyard. They just tied the ropes together as best as they could. There was no loop or toggle :(
I will have to do some research before generalizing about the whole country, but flags seem a lot more boring here!
