Guilin

We had a nice couple of days in Shanghai but were ready to move on this morning. We went for a long walk before heading back to the wonderful noodle restaurant we discovered on our first night for lunch. We decided to order the same dish as last time, but pointed to the picture that looked like chicken instead of beef. I'm sorry to say I'm not sure what exactly the meat was, but it was far from chicken. Our best guess was perhaps porcupine. Even my dad (who you will remember eats muffin wrappers on a regular basis) refused to eat more after the first bite. We did get a picture of the characters, so hopefully someone can tell me what it was someday.
We took the maglev back out to the airport and headed off to Guillin. There were far more French people than I expected in Shanghai and they seem to be following us... A couple of Brits mentioned that they thought that Shanghai was a lot like Disneyland while we were on the flight, but I think that might be a more accurate portrayal of Guilin. Our lovely hostel is just right off the Li River and all the buildings are lit up very colourfully. There is even someone singing opera outside our window.
We booked a boat trip up the Li River for tomorrow and are heading off to Yangshuo bright and early in the morning. I can't wait to see the city in the daylight!
